Q & A

What are lab tests?

Lab tests analyze samples of your blood, urine, hair, or saliva to gain important insights about your health. It’s important to undergo routine lab testing, even if you feel healthy. Many health problems, like high cholesterol and diabetes, don’t present obvious symptoms. Regular lab tests can alert you to issues early on, ensuring they don’t worsen.

What are the types of lab tests?

TCS Health offers a variety of labs, including testing for:

  • Anemia
  • Bone disease
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • General chemistry
  • Hepatic (liver disease)
  • Inflammatory diseases (like arthritis)
  • Nutritional assessments
  • Cancer
  • Lipid (cholesterol)
  • Pancreatic disorders and diseases
  • Pregnancy
  • Renal (kidney disease)
  • Reproductive endocrinology
  • Respiratory health
  • Spine health
  • Therapeutic drug monitoring
  • Sepsis
  • Thyroid diseases and disorders
  • Metabolic diseases and disorders
  • Toxicology
  • Urinalysis

TCS Health also offers testing for infectious diseases, like the flu, COVID-19, and sexually transmitted infections, like HIV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea.

What happens during a lab test appointment?

TCS Health provides lab testing on-site in their comfortable and state-of-the-art facilities.

Before ordering any lab tests, your provider reviews your medical history and asks about the reason for your visit. After gathering that information, your provider asks about your symptoms and conducts a physical exam.

The exam and the discussion of your symptoms help your provider determine what lab tests will most benefit you. If you have a sore throat, you might only need a single test, like a strep throat culture. If you’re experiencing a variety of symptoms, multiple lab tests might be necessary.

When will I get the results of my lab tests?

TCS Health has on-site labs at each of its offices. As a result, the providers can provide same-day or next-day lab test results in most cases. Certain tests, like COVID-19 polymerase-chain-reaction (PCR) tests, take less than 45 minutes.

What if a lab test identifies an underlying health problem?

If one or more lab tests suggest you have an underlying health problem, your TCS Health provider develops a custom treatment plan. Usually, that includes a combination of healthy lifestyle changes, prescription medication, and routine checkups.
